Topic: Robert Randolph........Again |

I just picked up the Sunday entertainment section of the Newark Star Ledger tonight,(My carrier isn't supposed to deliver it on Sat, but it can get heavy on Sunday morning), and on the front page of the entertainment section is a hugh article on Robert Randolph. I just read the one posted before from the Boston Herald and was impressed, but he is showing up everywhere, which is great. I believe he will start the next big interest in the PSG of this generation. This has been discussed lately alot. My point is that we need to support Robert and give him as much exposure as we can to promote our instrument. He will be on the Letterman show next week and he is on a mission, so, let's give this great player our support.

Rick, Sorry he will be on the Conan O'brien Show (a better show, IMO) on Tuesday August 7th, I think with the Mississippi Allstars, which I will be seeing on Wed Eve at the Irving Plaza.

I agree with Craig that Robert may be bringing the next big influx of interest in the steel guitar. Every Single gig we've been playing here in the northeast has somebody coming up and asking me if I've heard of Robert. He's really making a mark on people's imagination and excitement with his unique rock style phrasing, and his youth. He can use all the support we can give him... and don't be surprised if you find more younger kids asking you about steel from a "rock" perspective.

Craig, I wished I could see that show. Irving Plaza is a nice place to see a show. Hey...I'll go halves with ya if ya want to slide the soundman a few $$ for a copy of the soundboard  |

| I listened to a couple of Robert's sound clips; interesting style...almost completely devoid of chord/pedal work. Is most of his stuff like that? |

Hey there Donny, he does a lot more pedal and chord work than you might think. It's just that he uses his pedals in a very different way than we are used to (as "traditional" country steel players).
When I saw him play live, he was stompin' all over the pedals, and he played a lot of chord stuff too. Some of his chordal stuff is reminiscent of Hendrix in a "Little Wing/Castles Made of Sand" sort of way.
