My post yesterday was very poor-I apologise. Let me tell you the various cures I have tried with no success:
1. changed string (first) 3times.
2. Had a techie change pickups from neck one to neck two- pick-up from neck 2 to neck one--neck one still dead.
3. inverted bridge-no groove found- no tone change.
I have compared neck one to the other two necks every way I can think of. No relief
Does this excite any of you Stringmaster Sherlock Holmes? I'm desperate. Help! |

| I'm guessing just like you, but based on what you've said, the remaining parts that you haven't swapped are the bridge and the nut. Give those a quick try. |

I agree with Craig, Swap the nut and/or bridge... You might try flipping the bridge over rather than swapping it.

Hi Frank Welcome to the mele.
I was thinking about your guitar recently, and wondered if the pole piece under the string in question has lost most of it's magnetism. Of course there are two pickups, which complicates it even further.
Switching bridges and nuts may reveal something, like someone just mentioned, since you have already tried switching pickups.

Frank, I had a similar problem.
First, see if that particular pitch is sounding through the pickups on another string. This isolates the pickup as being the problem or not. Mine didn't pass the pitch on any string.
So, I put the bar at the dead spot and let it sit there. With one hand I would pluck the string. With the other hand I would press down hard at various places on the control plate (where the bridge and pick are mounted).
I found that the plate wasn't making contact with the wood in a certain area. When I pressed on it, the pitch would come through.
So, I folded up tin foil and "built up" under this area. Then, I tightened ALL of the screws on the control plate. Some screw holes needed the chopped up toothpick filler.
Now, she chimes beautifully. |
