One of the finest examples of what a steel guitar can do for a song......can now be heard on Jerry's Music page of his Jerry Byrd Fan Club.com site.
Bob Eaton's old Decca record of "Somebody's Been Steelin', My Sweet, Sweet Sugar" has it all. Jerry is the only lead instrument on the entire record. He kicks it off, backs-up from start to finish and tosses in the tag at the ending. Besides great touch and tone, is creativity really shines on this particular song. His sensitive phrasing....really ads impact to the words being sung.
Give it a listen and let me know what you think. This kind of great playing can be done on any kind of steel guitar; pedals or otherwise. |

| Too bad you don't use MP3s. Then everybody could hear this. (I couldn't). It seems like much of Jerry's best playing was either on 78 rpm records or recordings by country artists who's records are out of print. I wish somebody would re-issue this stuff. |

Now I realize its cause I use "Mozilla Foxfire" browser ... and the little "player" doesn't load.
So I just opened up with IE ... and yep ... "dar it is"

If y'all haven't "discovered" these yet ... I highly recommend the series of tapes that JB and Tom Bradshaw put together.
They can be bought thru b0b here on the forum ...

Hey Jeff, glad you enjoyed the Bob Eaton record with Jerry's early day performance thereon. Dan, the whole reason behind this jbfc.site is to provide a platform for as many folks as possible with the opportunity to hear Jerry Byrd in what some of us believe to be some of his finest performances.

Jerry backed Louie Innes on a version of "My Dreamboat Stuck a Snag" & Red Kirk on a version of "Over An Ocean of Golden Dreams". I have no idea if these were hit tunes in their day.
Ray, you wouldn't happen to have any of Jerry's first commercial offerings as a "Pleasant Valley Boy", (Happy Valley ?)on BlueBird records would you ? I've never heard any of those and I would guess they would be his first C6th recording. |

Never heard the Louis Innis tune...... Anyone here have a copy of that?
Anyone have access to any of the original, early day Pleasant Valley Boys records? Would be grateful for a copy if possible.
