Last week sometime I went to the Windows
Update site to look around and see what
they had in store.
There was one upgrade I was going to download: MS Virtual Machine V:5,0,3802,0.

What happened was that I aborted 2 attempts
to download, and for what the reasons were,
I couldn't tell you now, cause I forgot.

So when I went back for a 3rd attempt, the
MS VM download suddenly was no where to be
found. Right where it was located, above and below things that I remebered, it was not there. Gone.

I recall that this has happened before to me
somewhere in the far past.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? Does anyone know what's going on here?
Even early today, it was still missing.
Thanks all,

I haven't had that specific problem with the MS updates, but when I DO go to download the updates I get a message that indicates it has downloaded and the box that indicates "File Progress (in percentage) just sits there with NO indication of file progress. Only have the problem with Microsoft

When you first load the 'update' page

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

their system checks your computer configuration and presents a list of updates. If you've used this process befor, an 'update history' will have been generated. This is used to determine which updates you may STILL need to install.

If you have PREVIOUSLY installed a particular component, or got far enough along that Microsoft THINKS it's installed, that component may NOT show up in the list of updates.

If an update history has been previously created, you can click the button that allows you to view it. For those compnents allready installed, you may choose to uninstall by 'checking' the appropriate box.

To reinstall a component, simply choose to,
again, download. Note that you MAY have to uninstall a component in order for it to again show on the list of available/needed updates.

This process uses 'activex' and 'java' so those options must be enabled by your browser and security settings.

Thanks Ev & Bill. That download stall has
also occurred with me on several occaissions.
Even waitng for Windows to do that pre-configuring in the beginning before they hand over the downloads page....stalls out
sometimes [not lately with this, but when I had the Gateway pc, it did].

But since this post, I stumbled on this site,
which took care of MS Virtual Machine and includes, I guess, most all of MSN's downloads:
www.microsoft.com/downloads/search.asp

Hope this can help someone out.
