Why are some .jpg attachments open already
when you open your mail and some you have to double click to get them open?
I've had people on the other end tell me
mine get there already open at times.
I can't find a switch or option to control this.

Are you sure the ones that are already open (display when you display the message) are attachments or sent as part of the message "text" by the sender. If there is an attachement it should just show as an attachment (e.g. Outlook shows it as a file attachement at the bottom of the message).
A sender could also have a picture open and insert it into the message and in those cases it would show when you displayed the message.

Several options - in Netscape you can set attachements to be viewed inline or as a seperate attachement - that will change the way .jpg's are "opened". Some service providers (aol for one) handles binary file types differently that anyone else. That can also change how an attachement is treated.

If your e-mail format is HTML, that will also have a bearing on how the attachment is delivered.
