I use a session 500 and understand there is some sort of out-board control for the reverb, does any one know which pins on the multi pin receptical acesses this function ?

Pin 1 is the string effect (pin 1 and ground)
Pin 2 is the phase shifter (pin 2 and ground)
Pin 3 is the reverb.
They also use the ground pin.

The remote reverb is a 10K Audio pot.
Connect one end to Pin 3, connect the other end of the pot and center (wiper) to ground.

should the cable be shielded or does it matter?

Yes, the original Peavey remote had shielded cable.

I built on eof these remotes for my 500- quite easy if you have any electronics experience and a junk box.

I suggest getting the schematic of the amp from Peavey- quite cheap as I recall- and this will show the wiring of the remote as well.
