Is the effects loop send and return balanced or unbalanced?.
This preamp has one send and two returns. I have the manual, but it does not specify.

Send and Returns are all unbalanced, using a standard coax guitar cable (tip/sleeve.)

Send is mono. The two Returns are in case you are using an effect that has a mono input and stereo output, like a Boss reverb or chorus. If so, the effect generates the second (stereo) signal, so the two Main Outs of the preamp will be different. But if your external effect is mono, or if you don't use the Send/Return effects loop, then both Main Outs will have the same mono signal.

If you’re trying to get that Franklin or Mike Johnson tone the signal chain is as follows;
Guitar into the input of the Boogie
Recording outs to L & R inputs of stereo processor ( MPX-1 etc )
L & R outputs of stereo processor to L & R inputs of power amp.

The recording outputs of the Boogie are padded and sound warmer than the outputs of the main pre amp and you have miniature volume controls to insure precise level metering per side.
