I recently bought this 1971 Shobud Professional. It had an irreparable amount of water damage, warped, dyed from the case lining, etc. so I decided to have a new cabinet built. A good friend of mine built and finished the cabinet for me. I cleaned, polished, replaced or rebuilt all the mechanicals and got it reassembled and restrung last night. It plays like I would expect it to and sounds like a Shobud.
know, the purists will say it’s no longer a real Shobud, but I did the best I could with what I had to work with and tried to preserve at least some of her mojo. I’ll be adding a 4th knee lever as soon as I work out the details of it.

Appreciate everyone’s complements. I got to spend a little more time behind it today and I’m really loving the tone. Really thick and punchy when you want it to be. Great sustain.
Here’s are a few more picks of the build as it was being built.
We left the top “natural” to give it some contrast. I don’t think we’re pioneers in that. I’ve seen some similar. The front and rear valances, neck and hand rest are all dyed. The pictures show up a little redder than it is in person. I’d call it tangerine if I had to give it a name. To really make the inlay pop we dyed the outer strips black. Jeff’s trick to make the natural grain pop is to very lightly dye it with black then sand it all back off. The softer grain holds more dye and really makes the flamey goodness stand out. We put a tiny bit of brown in the first coat of nitro to give it a little warmer color and get closer to the inlay tones. There’s about 10 coats of nitro on it to help fill all the voids in the inlay.

OK, now I see what you did. First pic didn't show the rear of the cabinet top, just the neck and armrest area. Love the unique decal, and inlay. Inlay similar to the original but the horizontal line through it gives it a spiral effect. I've never seen that before!
