I need to replace the saddle on a 7 string Dobro I recently purchased. I've been leaving email messages and voice mails with Paul Beard's staff, it's been some weeks with no reply from them. I was going to have them make me a slotted saddle but at this point I would just cut the saddle myself.

Does anyone have a source for these? They are longer than the 6 string saddles so a standard replacement won't work. Looking at reverb.com and ebay I'm not finding anything. Any help appreciated!

Bridge Inserts?

I know the Beards were on vacation. They are usually right on top of things.

Might be worth another inquiry.

Good luck.

The description says 6-8 string.

I saw that, but the problem is that I don't need or want a split bridge, as the guitar has a Beard off-set spider installed and it's not necessary. On a 7 string the middle string needs to be right down the center.

I had a Beard 7 string and he added another slot on the existing 6 string bridge and, because of the sharper angle of the seven string bridge, the first string would often jump off the bridge when even medium picking was used. If he hasn't changed that by now, I'd make my own or get someone else to make one.

Interesting - so was that a one-piece bridge or split? I don't see why the angle would be different on a 7 string compared to a regular Dobro.

One Piece Bridge. A 6 string bridge made into a 7. That was in the late 80's and I don't think he had much call for 7's.
The problem with more than six strings is that the extra pressure dampens the plate/cone so you don't get that full dobro sound.
I put on "A" on the top of a "G" tuning.

I'm planning to tune my 7 string E G# B E G# B E so the pressure might not be an issue. All I can find are the regular 2 3/4" saddles so it looks like that is what I have to work with unless Beard gets back to me. I was hoping to find a longer saddle so that I could widen the string spacing a little bit.
