String Gauge Help Please!!

Changing a couple of the lower strings. String 9 from D to B and String 10 from B to E. Adds a bit of the sacred steel tunning. Its Dan Tyacks tuning. Please advise on what string company and gauges I should use. Thank you!!

Put whatever gauge you were using on 10 on 9. You may have to experiment with what gauge on 10. Maybe a .042 ?? RP

My first suggestion would be try to contact Dan Tyacks and obtain his string sizes. If no contact with Mr. Tyacks.

A good place to start would be look at and check, 12 string Universal tuning, Extended E9th tuning and C6th tuning to check larger string sizes.

The Universal Tuning SIT Strings.
B 9th string is .036
G# 10th string is .042
E 11th string is .054

If you can't find a set with sizes you want.
SIT and some other companies, Who supply single strings by size. Build yourself a couple sets of strings by size, Try them to see if they work proper.

Guages depend somewhat on how much you're lowering or raising those strings with your particular set up.
I use a 36 nickel wound on string 9, ( tuned to B ) a touch lighter than the typical 38w because I raise it up to D on RKL and I don't lower it at all.
If you don't raise it past C#, a 38w would be better.

56w is suitable for the low E on a 10 string as you might want to drop it to C# or D perhaps. Otherwise a 54w is pretty standard.

I have a G# on 10. its a 44w that raises to A and drops to F#.
