I tried this last night at my gig before taking my solo in the song “ Must be the Whiskey”. I usually try to run through all the “signature” steel parts of the set list at home before the gig but last night I was unable to do so.
What I tried last night, that worked very well, was practicing the solo while we were playing on stage a few bars “before” my solo was to begin. I completely backed off on the volume pedal and practiced the complete solo before it was my time to take my ride. When it was my time to go I played the solo as crisp as I could because it was actually my second pass through it.
I believe it’s a useful technique especially when your not as comfortable with the solo as you’d like to be.
Just a tip that I thought I’d pass on. |

What really confuses everybody (when a song is in "E" or "A") is to play just using the pedals and levers on the E9th open strings while moving the bar up and down on the C6th neck.
