That’s Ebb Tide composed by harpist Robert Maxwell in 1953. Another famous piece of his is Shangri La.
I personally think it partly inspired Erroll Garner to compose Misty.
Sounds like C Diatonic tuning here!
I worked up a version with E C# A F# D C# A B, which is B11th with the D# tuned a half step down!

Perhaps somewhat overproduced, but that tube amp tremolo is so beautiful.
Ebb Tide is definitely one of the all time classic instrumentals that everyone should know.

Oh man, I love that song!
My favorite, and my introduction to it, was Alfred Apaka's version. Jules Ah See on steel but mostly a vocal arrangement (which is just lovely...probably Ben Kalama's handiwork?). Apaka was my introduction to Hawaiian steel (even though not a steeler himself...but he had some great backing players!). Only slight blemish in this song is the fact that he says "one burning thought" in a way my kids (ok, me and the wife too, we are children sometimes) mishear as "one burning fart" which casts a new light on the song altogether...

That Jerry version is a delight though...diatonic tuning goodness. And at the House Without a Key...a few years ago we were walking along the beach at Waikiki hoping to get to a point to see the fireworks and passed that place where a tasteful, talented group was playing Hawaiian music to patrons who could afford a more pricey hotel than us, haha. No steel guitar...but I imagine if I heard music like that with steel guitar, I would have been stopped dead in my tracks.

I grew up playing and being around great musicians that were usually a generation or two older than me and am so thankful to have been exposed to so many wonderful tunes, instrumentals especially.
They were all big into Les Paul and Chet Atkins who covered many of these.
They must have been popular at some point as I’m a vintage LP hunter, or was, and man Herb Albert and the Tijuana Brass LPs seemed to be everywhere haha
