I have recently acquired a D-10 BMI and am having trouble getting the 6th. string to lower a full tone.

Does anyone have any idea as to what I need to do?

If it's a wound string, it will require a lot of movement to make a full tone lower.

Maybe BMI's don't have enough movement.

A plain sixth string will drop a full tone easily, the downside being that the tuning is more unstable than with a wound sixth.

I have a BMI and I lower the 6th a half tone. I don't think I'd have enough adjustment to lower it a full tone with a wound string, but I haven't tried.
I agree with the last post - try a plain string.

You know, I never gave it a thought about a wound 6th. string. It is a wound string and I have always used a plain. I will change that and see what happens.

Thanks to you both for your assistance.

From my BMI experience, I think it is highly doubtful you could get a full lower on a wound 6. You should be able to get it with a plain .020.

I changed the string to a plain and it has no problem making a full tone drop and then sone.

That's what I get for not looking closer. I just got the guitar and had not checked the strings at all. All is well now.

Thanks to you all for the help. This is a great place isn't it?????

Close this post up please. Problem solved.
