Didn't want to hijack the fifth string breakage thread. I have been breaking sixth strings since I changed to wound .022. Stainless. I just used up the last of a few I got from juststrings.com (they don't id the maker of their bulk strings) so I've ordered a bunch of Jags from b0b.
This is a 12 string uni so it's got the full step raise on 5 & 6 which certainly puts more stress on the 6th string. I consider broken strings to go with the territory but this 6th string thing is a new one (I'm breaking them at about the same rate as the 10th string B (9th string on my uni).
You guys with wound 6ths---do you break them? |

I use .022w as G#, and pull it to A# quite a lot. I think the .022w breaks about as often as the .018p on the 5th string, which is pretty rare. |

I also use the .018. I'd agree with your statement. But I don't think I ever broke a plain 20 on 6. I don't expect to go back to plain 6's but I guess I've added a string to the watch list. |

yep -- one reason I switched back
that small a wound string has a TINY core
I know this causes a much higher pull to musical interval change ratio and highly suspect it also leads to quicker breakage.
A 022p is a transatlantic cable by comparison. I've never broken one . . . ever.
I couldn't get used to the LOOOOOONG throw on the G# to A# change either.
The wound sounds better and, as long as you only need to pull it 1/2 step it's great.
