I'm curious about the mechanical limitations of the push/pull design. I know there are issues such as not being able to do split tunings on strings, and that changing tunings around takes more work and time on a p/p than on an all-pull guitar. But beside these issues, will a p/p handle as many knee lever additions as an all-pull guitar? It seems that most D-10 p/p's are set-up with 8 pedals and 4 knee levers, whereas it's not uncommon to see all-pull guitars with 5, 6, or 7 knee levers. Is this because of the era that the p/p's come out of, or is this because of a limitation of the p/p guitar to do well with more than 4 knee levers? I think every time I see a 6 or 7 knee lever guitar mentioned it is an all-pull guitar.

Jimmie Crawford made quite a name for himself in Nashville setting up push-pulls with TEN pedals and TEN knee levers. That was the setup he played and he made many 10x10's over the years.

A push-pull has no limit to the number of raises or lowers on any given string. You can only tune one raise and one lower at the endplate, but you can have any number of tuners under the guitar.

They CAN be laborious to work on, however, especially with a complex setup, BUT, in general, for each string there is only one raise rod and one lower rod, unlike an all pull which has one rod for each pull.

I own a 10x10 P/P that Jimmie built for me in 1979--it is truly a remarkable piece of work underneath. My D10 Fessenden has 9 floor and 11 knees...

I do miss Jimmie and think of him everyday....

Damir,

I don´t know the weight but the steel is quite heavy. I think I should buy a Promat with 8+6. Another picture for you:
