Can someone who has used the Gotoh keys on a push pull please tell me the best place to buy them and help me get the correct ones?
Thanks,
Jerry

Thx for the link Ian, they have a good selection of tuning machines and other guitar parts at reasonable prices.Just a little tidbit I found out when I was building my Tele last winter, most,if not all, Fender tuners are made by a south Korean company named Ping. I have a set of the Fender branded locking tuners with 18:1 ratio and they are a very well made part comparable to Gotoh,Schaller or Sperzel, but at better prices at least for now.... Smile

Jerry, I don’t claim expertise, bet this is a quote from a communication from Bryan Adams before his death.....

you need to get #933 gotahs...4 bags for a d-10..there 6 keys per bag...3 rt and 3 left...you will 4 spare keys left over...you will need to drill out the screw holes with a #29 bit, makes it easy with the 4-40 machine screws used on an emmons..they are real good key..better than the old klusons...BA

You "ARE" replacing Klusons, , right ?

as the key head shaft hole sizes are not the same for Sperzels which were used on later P Pulls from the factory.

just a heads-up

If you are replacing Klusons, use the old screws and it`ll be a drop in replacement.
Big improvement! Smooth, no backlash, better ratio.

I've installed Gotohs on a lot of my push-pulls. However, unlike new "vintage" replacement Klusons, I've never had to drill out or enlarge the Gotoh's screw holes to make them fit the keyhead. They're drop-in replacements. Hint: be careful when removing the old tuner's screws. They're really small and you can spend a LOT of time searching for a dropped one on a shop floor.

I put them on my wraparound and had to ream the screw holes ever so slightly. Not hard, just tool a little time.

Stewart,

Emmons used 4-40 x 1/4" long round head slotted screws but every single fastener on a Promat is metric, so those screws won't interchange.

The screws they most likely used are:

m2.6 x 0.45 x 6mm long

If they went a bit larger, they could be:

m3 x 0.5 x 6mm long

Take an example of an existing screw to a good hardware store to compare with what they have to determine what you have.

Jerry,

I have bought the Gotoh tuners from StewMac as others have mentioned.

http://www.stewmac.com/Hardware_and_Parts/Tuning_Machines/Solid_Peghead_Guitar_Tuning_Machines/Gotoh_Vintage-style_Oval_Knob_3and3_Tuners.html

Like Tommy Detamore mentioned, you'll probably need to ream out the mounting holes slightly in order for the 4-40 screws to fit through them.

Dang, am I reading that ad right, almost $30 a piece? They should be arrested for robbery. That's $600 for a D-10, I believe I'd put up with my old ones.
