I LOVE the sound of the steel on this song by Jerry Jeff Walker... does anyone know who it is? It sounds like a Fender steel to me... a tone similar to Sneaky Pete, though it's obviously not him:

The steel break on Jaded Lover (also by Jerry Jeff Walker) is great too... don't know if it's the same player.

Never mind... I figured it out! He calls out..."ahhh Leo" before the break, so I did a google search... it's Leo LeBlanc, who I'd never heard of. And I just found a youtube video of him playing an instrumental version of Let It Be Me... its great!! Same great tone. He must be playing a Fender (of course, if anyone knows otherwise, let me know).

So what can anyone tell me about Leo LeBlanc?

You can wade through this. He's been discussed a lot here.

When Jerry Jeff had his TV show on the now defunct 'TNN' the featured steel player was Lloyd Maines, not certain if he was present on any recordings however..

If I'm not mistaken, the forum's own Herb Steiner played with Jerry Jeff. Maybe he'll bless us with a few stories.

Yeah, Viva Terlingua, I also love a few albums that Weldon played on especially 'It's a good Night for Singing'. Leo LeBlanc was awesome, I think either he or Weldon played on my favorite 'Contrary to Ordinary' and 'Walker's Collectables'
