Restoration of an old 8 string Magnatone

I purchased this little steel from Hawaii a couple years ago. At the time I had no idea what it was exactly. It works as a very compact S8 lap steel, but looking at the back made it obvious that it used to be attached to a stand of some kind.

I now think it is a Magnatone after stumbling across a picture of a very similar D8 console. Can anyone help me figure out the original model? I would like to build a new base to look like the old one. Did they make a Single neck in this model? Some pictures and dimensions of the original bases would be very helpful. Thanks!

That looks like one neck of a multi-neck Magnatone, either a double or a triple. The Magnatone lap steels don't look anything like that. Someone took apart a multi-neck steel. That happened a lot back in the day.

Here's a picture I've found from the forum that shows the base of a double model.

A D-8 like that is definitely on my wishlist...
