Just wondering what the "go to" noise cancelling pickup to replace a single coil pickup from and emmons push pull might be and how they sound. the single coil hum is getting to me so I wouldn't mind trying something else at least for my gigging guitar.

Karen, I would recommend the Emmons 108N if you can find one. Otherwise, I have 710's in my 81 D10 that I rigged specifically to play a Friday evening show in an old building with bad hum due to electric wiring and lights with dimmers. They are very quiet in that building. I have had 108N's in a LeGrande II and they are very good. Mike Johnsons push pull has the old BL705's I think and it sounds great. Any of the three would be a good choice I believe.

Karen,
I tried the reissue 705's, but they were too tall. Couldn't get them low enough from the stings because the bobbins extend over the changer pillow blocks. Some folks seem to be able to get it right (Mike Johnson for one), but I couldn't. Awesome sounding pickup though...

Hi Karen,

I just wanted to mention that I've had very good results with the Telonics 409 in several guitars (including Emmons PP guitars). Here is a link to their website.

http://www.telonics.com/products/proaudio/pickups.php

For some reason the 409 isn't mentioned but it looks very similar to the 84. You may need to call Dave or Sophie to have them custom build you one. These pickups are very clean and clear with great string separation. Plus, with two rows of poles, you can really fine tune the voice of each string. Frank Carter was installing these in his Infinity guitars and as I understand it, both he and JayDee had much to do with the design.

I installed a Telonics 409 in my '71 Emmons p/p. First thing that I noticed was the clarity & improved string separation. Also very quiet Karen, so I'm sure that it would solve your problem. I use mine through a Quilter Steelaire.
