She has great talent, but I would advise to find a teacher. The tone she gets without wearing pick is very nice, but the bar hand technique needs some attention. I know her hands are small, but try holding the bar better with the fingers left of to it on the strings. When sliding, keep the bar straight. She'll be great |
We don't know anybody near our place that professional with pedal steel. My husband know some and his her teacher |

Sharon please p.m/email your address and I will send you some great instruction videos by Joe Wright. They are not the most fun but critical drills for playing pedal steel. Great drills for both hands. I bought them for my son a few years ago and would be thrilled to pass them on to another young player. I can also send you some youth size pics. |

Way ahead of me on PSG.
She gets it.
She can only get better should she stick with it.
A metronome would help during practice.
it will give her the idea of time intervals and space.
You can download those free as an app on your smart phone. Or buy pro versions.
Something like Mobile Metronome.

Greg Cutshaw graciously shared a downloadable backing track for "Way to Survive" here:

Not sure if I'm talking to Grace or Sharon... hopefully both of you. It's great to have you here.
Sharon, you've got a lot to reasons to be proud of yourself. I can see confidence in your playing. That suggests you're beginning to "get it." That's when the fun starts. Well done! |

Nice job! Especially impressed with her right hand technique. Clean! I think all the suggestions on this thread are great (trying picks, keeping the bar straight, playing with a metronome or backing tracks)...the best thing is, of course, a teacher. John McClung has a great curriculum for beginning players & can teach over Skype. He's at http://www.steelguitarlessons.com/. Keep pickin'! _________________ http://pedalsteelpodcast.wordpress.com |

My daughter is reading all the comments and suggestion. She's so happy to hear from you guys. I greatly appreciate it. Motives her to do better, She will be starting to combine it with back / rhythm tracks (I guess that what you call it ^_^ ) .
I also convince her to use picks. But she showed me that her finger are small and she not comfortable yet with the picks. Maybe in the future. |

Wow is all I can say. She has all the moves down with good technique. I once had a 12 year old student with small fingers and I just cut part of the finger wrap part off so they would fit. She got to doing decent and then just quit because of other interest. Hope your daughter continues because looks like she is well on the way, excellent. _________________ Henry Matthews

sorry for the late reply. Thank you for your compliment. We always trying to motivate her more. That's the reason why I went to this forum let her know that she's being recognized for the effort she put on it. She likes playing the steel and she really have talent playing it. Her dad is so amaze how she play, he said "I can't play that well". She can read tablature and put it together for not even an hour. Again thank you for the encouragement |
