Forum member Gene Haugh worked at Sho-Bud through the 70s and early 80s, he published this list of serial number ranges and dates a few years back: http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=1951049#1951049. The thread is a sticky at the top of this section (Pedal Steel).

It's since gotten buried in the middle of the thread, but this list is the most definitive source of general dating info you're going to find. This is the list that everyone very authoritatively quotes dates from around here. You'll see there that your guitar was completed in April '78.

Gene has all the original production cards from that era. If you reach out to him and you're real nice he might be able to tell more about your guitar's origins.
