I was interested in getting a goodrich marchbox 7A but they are very hard to come by these days. Then I read about the Hilton signal sweetner pro-sound II. Has anyone any experience with the two of these products and can shed some light on them. Does the Hilton do the same thing essentially as the Goodrich matchbox? Thanks. |

All buffer amp units for steel basically do the same: provide the PU with a high impedant load, and whatever follows with a low impedant feed.
They vary in whether they have adjustments for amplification / output level, variable load, or some form for tone control.
When directly compared, no two buffer amps will affect "sound" in exactly the same way, because the circuits, and components used, are different. Thus, one can always argue which unit that does the best job in each case - depending on what steel, PU, and other components each sound-chain consists of.
Most effect units that has a high input impedance and low output impedance, and can handle the generally quite hot output of steel PUs, can also be used as buffer amp units directly following the PU. The audible variation will be greater between such units, as the "buffer" functionality comes in addition to whatever else (effects) they are designed to do.
FWIW: I have a Goodrich Matchbox 7A and a Sarno FreeLoader. No Hilton here.
I most often use a BOSS LMB-3 as buffer amp (no other buffers in the sound-chain), as that unit does the job as buffer just fine in addition to what it is designed for. |

I like the Goodrich for no other reason than having volume and tone controls at my fingertip. |
