For an upcoming project, I need the measurements for the distances from the apex of the top of the bridge to:

1) The rear (bridge) edge of the bridge pickup
2) The front (neck) edge of the neck pickup
3) The distance (gap) between the two pickups

The plan is to convert a basketcase Gibson Ultratone body into a Stringmaster configuration using two Fender-style single-coil pickups and utilizing the existing three pre-routed holes for volume, tone, and blend controls.

Would it be an Ultramaster, or a Stringtone?

5/8", 2-7/8", 3/4" on my short scale D8 Stringmaster. Jimmy Hudson makes a repro stainless Stringmaster control/pickup plate for about $60 + another $20 for the bridge if you can use that for your project. Sounds like an Ultramaster could beat the crap out of a Stringtone. Razz

Edit: corrected second dimension to 2-7/8 from 2-1/8"

Thanks, Bill. Those are exactly the measurements I needed. I plan to fabricate a new mounting plate from plastic pickguard material, both to mount the pickups and to cover up some nasty damage to the body inflicted by a previous owner. I tend to agree -- an Ultramaster it shall be.

Jack, I hope you haven't started routing yet. The second dimension is 2-7/8". I was in a hurry and measured to the bridge edge of the second pickup instead of the neck edge. Sorry 'bout that. I'm sure you would have figured that out when you saw that the 3/4" between pickups wouldn't have been possible. Embarassed
