I love this song. Nice to hear it with steel instead of violins. A YouTube comment says the player is Ed Black.

Nice...Linda Ronstadt has a huge voice. I remember seeing her live back in the day and was amazed that voice came out of somebody so small. (think she's just over 5' tall)

Great video and rendition of the tune. One of her earliest hits. Love all the steel guitar replacing the string parts.

I know Ed Black recorded on some of Linda's early albums, but I don't know what he looks like.

Steve Fishell was around a lot in those days so he might be able to verify if it's Ed...or maybe Skip Edwards would know...

Ed Black had long blond hair parted in the middle. Skip Edwards knew him well.

The strings on Linda's single were accomplished by Weldon Myrick playing steel through a boss Tone and an Echoplex. He stacked multiple tracks for a wider sound.

Was the single different from the album? If not, these are very convincing violin sounds.

Bob The violin out front sounds like a violin but the string section sound behind it sure sounds like the bosstone string effect to me.

bOb,
That is the exact cut...What you hear is basically the Area Code 615 band with Linda....Buddy Spicher played fiddle and stacked a viola part and the rest is Weldon.....Back in the late 60's and early 70's A poor mans string section was to hire someone like Hal, Emmons, or Weldon along with a fiddle player like Spicher who understood how to orchestrate and their collaberated parts cut the budget costs astronomically. You can imagine how attractive paying 2 musicians instead of 16 was to a producer on a tight budget... Once the arp become popular, boss tone steels were no longer popular with producers.
