Topic: Reverb mod tube replacement |

Have a Monoprice 15W tube amp and upgraded to a Mod 8EB2C1B reverb tank. Great improvement but now I have to turn the control up halfway before it registers and almost all the way up to get something I like. Is there a tube I can replace also? I can probably live with it like it is but would rather have the head room.

Might be the tank you got is the wrong impedance for your amp's reverb circuit.
What happened to the original tank?

It's just a little plastic tank. Still installed. I've read reviews where others have replaced with the same one I used with good results. I just spliced in RCA plugs to the wires from the other tank then put it in a reverb bag. Plenty of room to leave the old one in. It works, and sounds fine. Just seems I have to turn up the reverb knob a lot further than the stock one.

Well for some reason you're not content with the performance.
Here's the specs on the Mod tank:
Input Impedance 800 Ohms, Output Impedance 2575 Ohms.
Transformers on tanks are not one size fits all.
Try reversing the wires on the input/output. Might be the tank or the amp has reversed connections.
You replaced the pezz dispenser tank's connectors with RCA...
Could also be the reverb circuit on the amp is not that good either.
Might get better results using the FX loop and a reverb pedal.
Some say this amp is a rebadged Laney..

Reversing the wires sounds interesting. (And easy!) So it would still work if polarities were reversed? Because it does work. And it won't harm anything, I take it. Yes, I've heard the same comparison. It really is a good sounding tube amp for the dough. Used it on about 20 gigs now and no complaints, except for the crappy stock reverb.

I've heard the Mod tank has reversed connections from other tanks.
You're not reversing polarity mainly reversing input and output to the tank
It shouldn't harm anything. You bought a tank that wasn't specified for your amp and are experimenting.

The reverb circuitry on these amps is not tube driven to answer your original post.
But now that you mention it, check the polarity ALSO on your connections from the amp to the tank when you swapped connectors to RCA's...
From the amp:
GREEN IS + INPUT
RED IS + OUTPUT
Black is GROUND
I've heard this amp with a Hall of Fame on the front and it sounds better than the spring enough to make this amp worth using.
