Here's some info on the band but the steel player isn't named.

The only reference I can find is this:

September 13,1939; New York, New York.

possibly Jesse Carpenter, steel guitar

Carpenter was hot on other Rice Brothers tunes like "Nagasaki", "Alabama Jubilee", "Japanese Sandman", and "You've Gotta See Your Daddy Every Night". You can probably find those tunes.

Carpenter also did this instrumental a couple of years later--maybe you can find it.

Thanks Mitch. I've been working on Bob Dunn's "Blue Skies" recorded in the same year 1939.

It's a pleasure to stumble on another great player.

These tunes are included as part of the Rice Brothers Gang Collection on Archive.org.

Apparently, Paul Rice wrote "You Are My Sunshine" and later sold it to Governor Jimmie Davis. The Rice Brothers recording referred to in this thread was recorded prior to Davis' version.

The Rice Brothers did a number of pop songs that I'd like to hear, particularly Jesse Carpenter's steel--songs like Mood Indigo, Marie, Sugar Blues, Yes We Have No Bananas, and On The Sunny Side Of The Street. Maybe they can be easily found?
