Interesting cover of this song. For my money Glen Cambell's rendition can never be bettered. On this Ray Charles version Buddy Emmons takes a steel break.

love this version, number one in my book. Buddy is on most of the album, Volcanic Action of My Soul. apparently Glen helped set up the gig for him and it was one of his very favorite sessions he ever played. according to Buddy, he didn't even know he was doing a Ray Charles session... he thought it was a Glen date until Ray walked into the room!

Have to agree. As exceptional as he was on all kinds of material, this feels like the wrong song for Ray, and for my taste, it's over arranged. Very nice steel playing from Buddy though.

Apparently Mr. Charles really enjoyed Buddy's playing-- also on Volcanic Action of My Soul is:
"Ray Charles - Feel So Bad - LP Version"

Buddy begins an outrageous 30-second C6 solo at about 1:20.

This article attributes the bass solo to Glen (3rd paragraph from the bottom).
