I've just listened to a Sonny Burgess record in honor to him, because he died a few days ago. The record features a steel player on two tracks. His name is Dick Bachmann. Is anybody familiar with him?

I knew Dick, I was on that record with Sonny. I haven't seen him since the early nineties and have lost touch with him. Dick lived in the Milford, CT area, maybe some of the CT folks know him. He was a great guy, excellent player. He played a Marrs steel when I knew him, and he used that steel on the Sonny and Dave record. Dick seemed pretty connected to the steel world at the time, he mentioned personally knowing BE and Duane Marrs and some other prominent figures. Hope he's still around and out there playing.

Thanks JG! Are you one of the guitar players on "Tennessee Border"? If so I always thought he was the guy from Moby Grape.

Joachim, I played guitar on the record but I'm not the Moby Grape guy.

Man was I mistaken, I thought you sounded exactly like him. Are you still doing sessions JG?

Joachim & JG:

I've known Dick for about 45 yrs. He lived and played around eastern NY State for many years. Dick was a great guy and fun to be around. He pretty much played Sho-Buds back in the 70s. During all my years out on the road he always stayed in contact with me.

I'm sorry to say that Dick passed away about a year ago. He had moved from CT back to NY State, around the Kingston area. He still had the Marrs. Dick was battling several illnesses and they finally got the better of him. A sad loss and I miss visiting with him via our phone calls.

Sincerely,
Chris "Tiny" Olson

Tiny, thanks for the update on Dick, it's a shame he's no longer with us. I'm glad I had an opportunity to know him and play with him. He was a great guy and great player.

Joachim, I still do sessions. These days almost all my calls are for steel, which is my second or third instrument, but I enjoy it a lot.
