Rest in peace Steve Chapman. Steve played for Reno and Smiley, Bill Anderson and took Leon Rhodes place with Ernest Tubb. He was also a highly in demand studio musician for many years. Like so many Steve turned to driving busses and trucks later in life.

I've know Steve Chapman since the early 70's. When he left the Troubadours, Buddy Charlton asked Ernest to hire me. But Ernest told him if I worked for anyone except Loretta Lynn he would. I always wanted to play in that band with Buddy. After Steve's picking days, I was working for Grayline Bus Co. as a trainer, And I trained Steve for the company. He drove bus for quite a while. We had lots of road stories we shared with each other. I will miss my pickin' buddy.

I'm very sorry to hear about his passing.I remember seeing him on the Ernest Tubb Show. He was very handsome with blonde hair and cobalt blue eyes. One time Steve and Buddy C were playing harmony on a turnaround on one of Ernest's songs. Steve overplayed Buddy who just shook his head. It was all in fun. RIP !!

I met Steve way back when I attended Jeff Newman's first advanced/ teacher's class. He came in to jam with Jeff and Buddy. I had a lot of questions about the Nashville scene and he was very helpful and kind to a young feller. We spent a good bit of time together and he certainly was loaded up with great tales. RIP.
