Here are a few sources I've found for cool backing tracks/tools for jamming or practice purposes.

Gypsy Jazzer Stephan Wremble has some very nice Django-style tracks. Go to lessons and right click to download the tracks: http://www.stephanewrembel.com/lessons/

This is a cool site! you can play, loop, customize and download tracks for lots of pop and rock songs:

Drummer Steve Korn created a set of great sounding, killer drum grooves in a variety of jazz and rock styles. They are no longer on the web but I will make them available for anyone who wants them. It's a 91 meg download so this link will be valid for just 7 days. Master drum grooves: http://tinyurl.com/yc9we68e

This Norway-based website has lots of nice jam tracks across a wide spectrum of styles that they sell but also post in their entirety on YouTube. If you have a free YouTube-friendly download app like KeepVid you can easily download them from YouTube:

And lastly, Music Tutor is a terrific free phone app for honing your sight reading chops. Thanks to Stefan Robertson for the heads up on this. It gives you a series of short quiz periods to enter the names of notes and let's you see where you got it right or made mistakes. Great for using your time well when stuck in line at the post office!

Classic progression ... In the years 2525, Sultans of Swing, Hit the Road Jack, every other song by the Gypsy Kings and on and on ...
