As part of an ongoing attempt to downsize my collection, I'm offering this steel for sale. It's a 1942 National New Yorker, one of the last 7-strings offered by National. It has a first-generation string-through pickup, which has individual coils for each string. The sound is warm and dark but not as muddy as the '30s New Yorkers with hidden pickups, and the pickup has higher output as well. The adjustable poles for each string are a plus, too. Everything appears to be original, including the tweed-covered hard case. There's only light, scattered wear around the edges, with no damage or repairs. It has the original screw-on Amphenol jack, and I will throw in a 1/4" adapter for use with any modern cable.

| A 1942 time capsule, Noah. With WWII ramping up, production cuts got underway, forcing many of these "new" models to be put away for the duration. This 1 is a marvel. Is it poss to post an image of the case here too? Thx Noah! |

I would like to see the case too.
In 1946 my parents bought this type of National for me in Chicago. Only it had 6 strings, otherwise identical to this one. I was 15 yrs old. Later I traded it for a triple neck Custom Fender guitar in the mid 50's. I hate the day I ever sold that National; for it had a sound to die for, but times were very hard then and it was the only way I could afford the Fender.
I sold it too and bought my first PSG (Fender 400 with 6 pedals brand new). Wish I hadn't. It was in perfect condition and had the sound also. Finally sold the Fender PSG and bought my first '69 Emmons P/P "fat back" with the "cut tail" model.
Never liked it. NOT a fan of P/P's. LOVE their LeGrandes.
Good luck on this sale. The guitar looks really good considering its age.
