I thought the size difference would make an interesting picture...

The older one weighs twice as much and has a shorter scale length.

Bob....those new Sierras look brilliant. In 1977 when I was working in a guitar shop in North London I got the owner to get Sierras in. We called Don Christensen and ordered 8 guitars in...10's and 12's ...we sold the lot in a short space of time, and one of them is still doing the rounds in Glasgow Scotland Very Happy

I'd still go for the old Sierra... I like the keys, the chrome legs & everything in between.

I bought my Last Sierra & it sits in one spot, so a little heavy don't hurt. It plays great & looks like a Cadillac.

The new guitar is very nice looking, but you couldn't give me a keyless anything. I'm still old school, but then I'm old.

Good luck Sierra, I'm a Sierra fan...

I personally like the keyless sierra,s, I can change 2/strings to one on a keyed guitar. Plus the keyless guitars have a 25/inch scale. Never had a problem with string breakage. The only thing I like better on the new Sierra is the tuners....plus this one is a lot cheaper...thanks jack

The old Sierra Olympic has a 24" scale. The prototype shown is 24.5", though some were made at 25". I'm not sure what they've settled on for the production model, or what it will be called.

Love it, b0b!

And, since I tend to gravitate towards vintage automobiles, "vintage" in general, I actually prefer the 40 yr. old guitar, lol. I love the new model too, but I like classic things.

Even if I do need to employ a pro wrestler to carry the thing for me, lol.

Really partial to my '84.
Would love to own a new one, but I don't have enough stuff to sell to raise the cash !

I'm not sure where she is now. Bought from Micky Byrne in January, 1979. Notice both the locking studs for the legs are missing. Don't know if it was a design flaw or if I was just unlucky.

Well, that settles that! Very Happy The 24.5" scale sounds great with a Telonics pickup and volume pedal, by the way. I'm very happy with this guitar.

I haven't recorded the new one yet, Billy. You can hear the Olympic (when it was tuned to F Diatonic) on this Bandcamp page: https://b0blee.bandcamp.com/album/diatonic-adventures

I didn't know they were back in production. They look amazing! Only concern: where's that cool name plate with the Sierra logo?

Here's my ol' Sierra 12--very similar to Bobby Lee's. Mine's got 6 pedals, 5 knees. I just put the humbucker pickup back in and wow, what a sweet guitar! I do, occasionally need a little help hoisting it into and out of the case--no problem it's worth it.

Bob, is the new company taking orders and actually shipping the new Sierras yet?
I'd love to have one of these, as I've been playing the keyless Session model since it first came out and cant imagine playing anything else.
But as I understand it will be a one man shop with very limited production and I assume lengthy delivery time. Can you update us?

Mine was prototype #5. They are taking orders for the first production batch. See www.sierrasteels.com/products/pedal-steel-guitars.html

Hokey Smokey! Very nice, but there's finally a guitar way pricier than a Franklin.

Way out of my league.
