Getting ready to restring my Fender T-8 string master and wonder about the best technique for stringing the tuner end? I have tried a few methods but would welcome the input of the experts here,

thanks,

Steve

I usually trim the string so it is about 2 tuner lengths longer - so if it is string 8, it reaches to tuner 6 - (2 and a half or so on the highest strings).

Line up the tuner so the hole is vertical. Keeping the string slightly under tension with my right hand, I put the string through the hole in the tuner till it reaches the bottom of the tuner pan and wind it with a string winder. Once the tuner has gone a couple of turns and is holding the string firmly, I hold the string away from the fretboard and let it pull my finger down till it is flat. Tune to pitch and then give a little vertical tug so it goes flat and retune. Repeat a couple of times till it no longer goes flat.

Thanks for the reply Jeff. Good call Steven, I was just going to ask this question.

Similar to a telecaster I have where the strings go into the center of the tuning peg. For that guitar I usually measure 2 strings longer than the string I'm putting on.
