Topic: Amp Setting for Steel King |

| I have a never used steel king .I set the knobs like the manual suggested. Sounds terriable. Any ideas thanks Foegot I use a 7A matchbox,DD3 Delay, sho bud volume pedal. |

Did you try it without the matchbox and effects?

EQ Tilt - 9 o’clock for C6 and around 10 or 11 o’clock for E9.
Treble - around 11 o’clock.
Mid Level - 10 or 11 o’clock. This control doesn’t work unless the Mid Frequency knob is moved from the center setting.
Mid Frequency - 11 o’clock.
Bass – 1 o’clock
Reverb – 10 o’clock
The Steel King is designed to get a good sound with all knobs straight up, but as you know different guitars will require variations from those points. I’ve tried three or four different brand guitars with the amp and found a good tone for all of them. The settings I gave you are for my JCH, but the amp is so user friendly, you’ll not have to hunt long for a tone that compliments your guitar. |

I always start with all the knobs straight up. Depending on the venue, sometimes all it takes is a slight adjustment of the Tilt knob.
We played at a private event recently. It was held in a large venue that could probably accommodate 400 people. It is a very "bright" sounding room with a concrete floor and block walls. Great natural reverb, by the way.
I played my BMI S-10 (705 pickup) through my Fender Steel King and was very pleased with the sound. Here are the settings I used:
Treble 12 o'clock
Mid Level 11 o'clock
Mid Frequency 1 o'clock
Bass 1 o'clock
Because the room was pretty bright sounding I dialed the EQ Tilt back to 10 o'clock.
I had my guitar running through a Sarno FreeLoader and a Goodrich pot pedal. I had the FreeLoader dialed back to 6. Usually I run it at 8. Again, it is a very "bright" sounding room.

I play my Carter thru a Steel King and didn't realize how muffled the sound was until I plugged in a Lil Izzy. The difference in the sound was amazing! Much clearer and brighter. I have a Black Widow speaker instead of the stock Fender speaker, which takes out some of the shrill highs. I also stopped using my Line 6 POD XT Live pedal.
