I've only seen one other Emmons with that mica on it. Kenny Grohman in San Antonio has owned it for 40 years.

Oh yeah... All the maple is straight grained which is preferred for the body. The figure comes from Veneer just like my Blue guitar with the orig veneer.

Curious to know what mica to lacquer will do to the tone. A friend of mine has a PP lacquer that he had it converted to mica, ruined the tone.

Emmons had a special process for gluing the mica, some say was part of the tone, Mike Cass would know for sure.

Not too sure about that. I wonder why some one would cover up nice wood with Mica? I do know my Blue Lacquer guitar sounds amazing so I guess we will see.

I would think removing mica and replacing with veneer would improve body resonance (assuming that resonance equates with tone).
Formica is way stiffer than veneer, especially guacamole. If mica was better, Stradivari would have used it. Quite a big job, Mike. |
