Just listen to Jerry's back-up when the organs plays.
The way he mixes harmonics and those impossible slants, I think it's worth it.

Now that I've turned 81, my entire Jerry Byrd collection consisting of 78, 45, 33 1/33 rpm discs plus several hundred cassette tapes of Jerry's old releases as well as live performances from the Opry
until the date he left that show.
Several hundred disc are Jerry playing with other artists that many of you have never heard before.
Only seriously interested prospects need reply.

JOE, the KILIMA WALTZ dates back to the early twenties. It was one of the first songs I learned to play long before I had ever heard of a guy named Jerry Byrd. IMHO the organ as played by Owen is simply beautiful and adds so much to Jerry's style ... two fabulous musicians !
Many years before Jerry and Owen got together there was another group called the Paradise Islanders who played music in a similar style. I cannot recall the steel player's name...perhaps someone on the Forum will recall the recordings to which I refer.
I'm sure SKIP and I agree, this was one of JB's masterful recording enhanced by Owen. |
