Thanks for posting this Jim. Susan hasn't been been deterred from taking the pedal steel down a different road, and I am pleased for her that her diversity has been recognised. _________________ Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator. It shows that if you follow your own muse, every now and then it will even pay off monetarily. It certainly pays off artistically. I know Susan has not had an easy road. What terrific validation.

Thank you, Jim Cohen for posting this and thank you Don, Bob Hoffnar, Ian, Howard Parker, Chuck Lettes, John, Jim, Jack, Dan, Chris, Larry, Martin, David Weisenthal, David Mason (Dave, you’re right - it was indeed the medley of Justin Bieber hits that got me the award), Dave Mudgett, Chuck Stowe (we've known each other for such a long time), Bob Blair, Charlie, Steve (Beijing is a bit far, but you never know), Nic, Walter, Greg, Billy, Andrew Roblin, Bob Watson, Larry, Ken, Joe, and Paddy.
It was indeed an honor to be given that award (I was one of six), and it's been a lot to wrap my head around. It's also nice to hear from you, my fellow steel guitarists - colleagues whom I admire and respect, many of whom are friends. That's as good or better than anything.

Also
For what it's worth, here's some background on the Baker Artist Awards this year - an interview with Baltimore Magazine, a TV special on the awards (the steel guitar portion of the show begins at 18:50 - some snippets of the pedal steel, including a a few notes on my black (of course) Emmons p/p that Billy Knowles worked his singular magic on), and the video profile used in the application (excerpts from live performances):
