I suppose one could technically play such a thing by spinning the bar around 180° with the nose pointing toward the player. Shocked Has anyone ever attempted such a thing?

I had the same thoughts as you Andy, that's why I said it's an typo. But with an Steel guitar in my hand I realized that you just do a normal backward slant and try to cover string 2 and 3 in an equal way (sorry, hard to describe). Adding vibrato helps. It's very different to am normal forward spiltbar where you use the tip of the bar as far as I understand it.

I don't read notation well, but I have come to realize part, or a lot of what makes players of that calibre so pretty to listen to. Dick plays many notes right on the beat. The rushed ahead of the beat notes are carefully used in the right context, and the rest of the time it's just right on the beat. This unrushed feel is the essence of pretty , for me. On the same course of technique, when sliding from note to note, the sliding portion is timed to the timing of the music, not rushed! Not to press this too much, but it is important to me!
Because I find myself falling into this rushing habit. Trying to improve my sound!

That's a mighty tricky reverse slant in bar 2!

That must be typo, you can't play a splitbar reverse slant. Dick hardly used any 'normal' backward slants !

I have to correct myself concerning the backward slants.
I'm working on 'For Ever And Ever' in the moment and some of the parts can only be played using backward slants and the F#9th tuning. But still, his arrangements are rather easy to play and so effective, what a player !
