Hi Folks, I cant seem to dig up any info on the National electric steel guitars of the 40s and 50s on the web surprisingly. It seems so many were made looking at the serial number info mentioned here on the forum. It almost seems like valco made them. The D8s and New Yorkers in particular were so great looking. Sites only mention the resonator styles...

Get the book by Mark Makin entitled "Palm Trees, Senoritas, and Rocket Ships." Quite expensive, but very, very impressive.

The Book (Bible) should be on every coffee table and even those that drink tea!!!

When you buy quality as this is I do not mind spending money, it is a fantastic guide and even those who think they know everything learn every time they flick through it.

Not almost - Valco did make them. The National-Dobro Corporation was reorganized into Valco in 1942, and they continued to manufacture the National and Supro brands until they went bankrupt in 1968.

The book mentioned above is a great resource. The history of National/Valco is a hobby of mine, so I may be able to answer whatever questions you have.

Great info guys, I will look for that book. Whoever designed those elaborate bodies and fretboards was a master.
