I am putting my custom Crystal Forest walnut lap steel up for sale. I received this guitar a little while ago and am still very impressed with it. It was built by Terry Majewski of Crystal Forest Instruments. He is probably best know for his "pancake" mandolins, but has started to branch out into custom acoustic guitars and F-5 style mandolins that seem quite nice. He hasn't built many lap steels, but the ones he has produced all seem to be top-notch, and this one is no exception. It is made out of a slab of black walnut that Terry had been saving for a lap steel of his own, but offered it up. It has some really nice figure in it. I had Terry use an ebony peghead overlay with his Crystal Forest logo and tree, as well as an ebony fretboard that has some really attractive stripes running through it. It has raised frets and abalone fretboard markers, per my request. Terry typically builds his lap steels with Kent Armstrong pickups, Grover Sta-tite tuners, and a Telecaster style Stew-Mac bridge. These are all fine parts in their own right, but when I asked Terry to build this guitar, I was looking to get a little more out of it. Terry was kind enough to use all of the parts I had asked for in place of these others. These parts include a Lollar Supro string-through pickup, black Sperzel Sound-Lok tuners, and a G&L adjustable guitar bridge. Obviously, these came at an upcharge, but were quite worth it. The Lollar Supro reproduction pickup sounds great on it's own, but being a high-output pickup, it really shines when you put it through an overdrive pedal. I ran it through my Boss Blues Driver pedal and it has all the power and crunch you could want for a bluesier, or rock feel. It's just an all-around great pickup. The Sperzel Sound-Lok tuners keep tune very well, work smoothly, and look great on this guitar. It's a simple and straight forward build, but everything just came together into a really nice looking and sounding guitar. I am also including in the sale the Stage Hand assembly for stand-up playing with a strap. Jason Dumont of Lap King guitars was kind enough to sell me one for this project and I installed it after it arrived. It works very well and it came with a Dunlop strap lock system which I also installed. I will be shipping the lap steel in a really nice TKL lap steel gig bag.
I am looking for $650 plus shipping. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thanks!
