While going through some old stuff, I found the invoice for a Sierra D-10 that was purchased in Jan of 1976. It is of minor historical value as a testament to the effect of inflation on steel guitar prices.

Of even less significance, was that the guitar being ordered and received factory-direct, led to my 4 year employment at Sierra.

When I took John Sala up there in 1978 to pick up the guitar Tony was building for him they were making airplane parts. Maybe to make ends meet? Anyway that could be what the name implies?

I fell in love with Sierra's then and there but they were financially out of my reach back then.
Comparing that 76 invoice to prices today with inflation it seems PSG's are actually less expensive now.

Harlow Mfg was Ben Harlow who was one of the owners (partners) of the company which manufactured Sierra. I don't know what the arrangement was with Chuck Wright, but Chuck was always there and was obviously the designer and guru. My impression was that Ben Harlow knew very little about the instrument.

Shortly thereafter Don Christiansen bought the business just as I started working there.

I remember, that was on both of the invoices on the two Sierra's I owned back then too. Wish I would have kept all that paperwork... I can't remember the price we paid for either one.

First one was white, S-10 5 & 4, an awesome guitar. I had considered a 12 string with the "change-loc" feature, I think it was called, that dropped the tuning to B6...I think...

Second, we traded the S-10 in on the D-10, Rosewood, 8 & 4.

In the case with the D-10, there was a hand drawn manual, a bunch of promo pics of their various guitars & other literature.

Thanks for posting the invoice, Tony! Great memories.

P.S. - I can still remember cracking the cases open on both guitars - I love the smell of a new steel! Mr. Green

David, your dad was very dear to me. I loved him and sorry we didn't keep in contact. He was a man with a vision and a grand heart.
