Hey fellas! I have a great set of steels, an old ZB Custom and an MSA SSII as well as a BMI S-10 from 1983 (which is exactly as seen in the link below). Recently there have been gigs that are just calling for the E9th and I'm starting to get tired of bringing around the double neck ZB and MSA but I'm not impressed with the sound of the BMI. I don't wanna get rid of my BMI, that's my baby lol. It's the VERY first steel guitar I've owned.

I think that I wanna start looking for pickups for the guitar and I've received some suggestions about George L's and Telonics pickups. I've been leaning over to the telonics side with the aid of videos by DavePedalSteel on YouTube.

...just wondering if new pickups will sound good or if I should invest in a new single neck?

Thanks for your input!

My beef with the E-66 isn't the tone, but the envelope.
I call it "the soul suppressor," as it somehow flattens the personality of the playing.
I generally like the 705 (which can be switched to single coil mode, if you prefer that. In the single coil mode, it'll give you a rewarding Bakersfield twang) or the Tonealigner (not sure Bob is still making those), and the Telonics 84 is of the same design as Tonealigner.
If you prefer single coils (and I do), it's hard to beat the Truetone.

If the BMI takes a wide-mount base plate, I have an E-66 for sale for $55 shipped. Those who like this sort of thing will find it the sort of thing they like.

My BMI S-10 has a 705 and it sounds great.
