The album New Nashville Cats has this on it , with Paul playing a little hotter than this version believe it or not. Plus a whole lot more on the album.I think its Mark O'conner and the New Nashville Cats.

To be fair, Brent doesn't do too badly himself.

The tambourine player is virtuoso harmonica player Terry Macmillan.

Jeez la weez. That's a barnburner. Nice shot of the front of the blue Franklin D-10. Always love O'Conner's arrangements with guitarists, let alone one with Franklin on steel! Thanks for this one.

So what?
Is it musical?
Is it expressive?
Does it hold the soul of pedal steel guitar?

(Just askin'.)

Legitimate questions. If they are not expressing themselves, what are they doing? I think they are expressing that they are the best at what they do. This is what great musicians do for fun.

Musically, it is a fairly interesting piece. I can't be sure about the other solos, but Brent Mason seems to be playing it very similar to the one he plays on the record - which is remarkable in its own way.

The soul of the pedal steel is not being held here. It is being expanded and liberated.

I know some people who think this kind of playing sounds funny. Their opinions are funny.

Somewhere there is a classical violinist who has viewed this video and is asking those same questions (as Alan B.) regarding Mark's playing.

I do not find it very musical but the level of accomplishment is remarkable. So it does impress me because chops like these take a lot of honing.

There's nothing wrong with including a track like this on an album for the purposes of entertainment but I'm not sure how often I could listen to it.

This is just an advanced version of Orange Blossom Special. This is what the big boys do to unwind from the usual crap they must play for a living. I highly doubt that they give two figs who does or doesn't like it...

Well, I doubt they care what I think either. But I don't see why I shouldn't express an opinion.

Wasn't replying to you. I mean to anyone in any audience. These guys are playing for themselves on tunes like this. You either like it or you don't, no biggie.
