Other than the humbucker being more quiet, any opinions on the differences?

Humbuckers don't have the crisp attack

And humbuckers don't allow the player to vary his tone as much, by picking hard or soft or closer to the bridge, etc. Single coils breathe more and respond to a player's picking technique. Humbuckers put out a more consistent kind of sound, stronger and darker in tone IMO. I'm not saying it's bad, just different.

Totally agree with Doug. To me, there are only two advantages to a humbucker:

1) As the name implies, it "bucks" 60-cycle hum. In some rooms, this can be a distinct advantage.

2) When using a high gain, boost, overdrive, distortion, or fuzz pedal in a high-volume situation.

Had both in my SKH along with BL605, 705, and 805s. Eventually settled on True Tones wound @ 17.5K. Quieter than the Emmons SC pickups and still sound good.

A friend replaced the stock single coil Emmons pickups with Lawrence 710's on his Legrande II. Until he got the Lawrence pickup the correct distance from the strings it was very bright. Once he got it the correct distance his Emmons sounded like an Emmons (without the single coil pickup hum).

I have used the Lawrence 710 and new 705 pickups on my Emmons LeGrande. Although they sound good, I always tend to go back to single coils. I recently put a couple of Emmons 108N pickups on my guitar and they sound closer in my opinion to the single coils. I did have to re-adjust slightly as they are not as crisp, but, they sound really good and I have no noise at all with full volume pedal. I have had them on now for a month or so. I stay busy and we play a good amount of gigs, and many times the venues have bad power and I would have to deal with the noise from my single coils. The 108N's are as close as I have come to the single coils on my Emmons in my personal opinion.
