I have an old LP with Buck title song is "I've Got a Tiger By Tail" Capitol ST2283. Last song on B side is "Memphis", YES a Chuck Berry song. Was Buck Owens the first country star to record a Chuck Berry?

No.
Marty Robbins recorded Maybellene in 1955.
Ernest Tubb recorded Thirty Days, circa 1956 or 57.
I'm sure there's more than that.
Pretty sure Conway Twitty recorded some of Chuck's songs, but I'm not sure when they came out. |

Buck recorded Johnny B Goode on his Live in London album. I might have the name of the album wrong. That recording is also on the recently released "Buck 'em" collection. |

Tony Farr recorded it as steel instrumnetal on his LP "Tony's Touch". I have that LP somewhere, have to look for it and listen.
Kind Regards, Walter _________________ www.lloydgreentribute.com |
