Multiple takes blended together or at times offset from each other and maybe some flanger.

Yep, double tracking, many players did that in the Studio.

Here is me single tracking on "I'm not Lisa".

James.
Linda wanted to sing this one, some unfinished business I think.

Another vote for double tracking. Or at least using a doubler. I did a double tracked song with a producer in Nashville that worked some with Donny Garrish. When I got home, I used a doubler on stage to get the effect.

Decades ago, I saw John backing Conway during CMA Fest at the large enclosed sports stadium in Nashville.

After their set, John was kind enough to let me peer into his rack. He had two, yes two, Alesis Quadraverb effects units running into two on-stage amplifiers.

Each Quadraverb had slightly different settings - apparently to get 'that sound'

B Emmons seem to use a lot of processing in much of his later recordings too, i.e. Willie and C Potter 'Six Hours at Pedernales' cd. I assumed it was chorus effect set on slow. Anyone know for sure?

My band opened for Loretta Lynn at Ponderosa Park in Northern Ohio. I haul my gear into the backstage lounge, and there's John sitting there. I had to play in front of my hero? I was terrified! John put me at ease in about 10 seconds. What a wonderful guy! And, Man! He was really interested in my Kline Uni 12. I think he got one shortly thereafter.

James K! Really nice! Sounds wonderful on that old axe. I played in F on my Kline to get the low roots.
