Surprised nobody else picked up on this - he died this past Tuesday April 11, 2017 - Boston Globe Story

He and his band, who were essentially the house band at the Boston Tea Party for a period, were hugely influential on me and tons of other Boston-area blues musicians in the late 60s, early 70s. I hung out at their gigs multiple times a week back then, and I might just as easily have blown off school at that point.

Most people think about "Centerfold" and their MTV exposure in the 80s. But they really were a hard core blues band more in the mold of the Butterfield Blues Band. In the early days, they were electrifying.

J. Geils "Full House" Live Album was huge when I was growing up. J. Geils, Boston, Aerosmith, and the James Montgomery Blues Band put New England on the rock/blues map back in the early 1970's.

I was a huge fan of the J Geils Band.
I would see them every time they came through town (early 70s).
I remember Peter saying "Magic Dick, blow your face out". They were great musicians. I believe Faye Dunaway hung with Peter Wolfe for a while.
