To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the release of Sgt Pepper, Capital Records has just released this stripped-down version of the album's opening song... no horns, no crowd noise, no lead guitar, and some interesting discussion at the end. I like this more than the original! ----> CLICK THIS

Detuned classics... so is that a thing now? Kind of like the music fail videos that were popping up a couple years ago. The pitch and timing made me think of the inimitable Shaggs.

Believe it or not, I kinda like the Shaggs music! I listened to it quite a bit a few years ago, amazed at how awful it was... out of time, out of tune... and after a while I found myself humming the songs throughout the day! Surprised

Thanks John. I had no idea Dot was still at it. I guess the Wiggins sisters aren't as inimitable as I thought! Here's the original for comparison:

Doug, One of the (many) things about the Shaggs that always amazed me was that for much of the album, two of the sisters were singing out of tune and time - in unison!

Apologies for the thread hijack. I guess there's no such thing as a passing reference to the Shaggs.

No problem with the hijack, Bill. I like talking about the Shaggs. As Frank Zappa said, they were Better than The Beatles, so it's appropriate for this thread! I love the innocence and the positive spirit in their God-awful music! Cool

Were they playing a measure of 7/4, one of 4, then one of 5...? It must have taken a lot of rehearsal.
The extra guys live must've been ringers, there to establish a downbeat at appropriate times/phrases.
Don't get me wrong, I wish I had that much courage. Foot Foot? Is that a pet? Gotta love 'em. Almost avant garde.

I'm betting on the outtake the Beatles they had played it more than enough times by then. Just guessing. Maybe Zappa was right.

I think Foot Foot is a lost dog. "I go to his house and he don't live here no more. He likes to roam"

My favorite lyrics are from "Philosophy of the World". Pure genius!

Oh, the rich people want what the poor people's got
And the poor people want what the rich people's got
And the skinny people want what the fat people's got
And the fat people want what the skinny people's got

You can never please anybody in this world

The short people want what the tall people's got
And the tall people want what the short people's got
The little kids want what the big kid's got
And the big kids want what the little kid's got

You can never please anybody in this world
