Yeah, and that's the crap kids are brought up with today.

Butchering a good hot rod blue grass tune in my opinion, sorry, but yes, it was a bit painful. Sad

I doubt that very many kids today are being brought up on obscure early 70's California country rock. It wasn't as bad as I was expecting from the previous comments. I listened to some more from the same album and liked some of it. He wasn't a great singer but was capable of some good arrangements and there was a fair amount of steel guitar on what I listened to.

Hey, the guy produced the first two Byrds albums. I can forgive him for a somewhat lame cover of a Bluegrass tune. Smile

Yeah, kind of strange, but the 70s were strange times. Terry was the son of Doris Day. He's also remembered for his brief encounter with Charles Manson.

I love this number since the first time I heard it back in the early seventies. Especially the horn arrangment on it. I wonder what Clarence White, who played on it, would say in hindsight. Did he like it, or was it just a job for him.

Yeah, I like the arrangement, it's just hard to get past the singer's odd sense of pitch. Sad

I just thought the melody was lost in all of the singing

He was definitely a better producer than singer. And playing a fast two-beat Bluegrass tune as a slow ballad.... well, that's like playing "Stairway to Heaven" as a polka! It doesn't work. Surprised

Is this "pitchy" also? I challenge you to sing along. Good luck with your intonation!

Sometimes you come across something quite different than what is "normal". I can't find the link at the moment but recently found a video of a British band doing "Blue Moon Of Kentucky" as a slow waltz. Maybe others have done so but for me it was a first.
