So what's so hard about tuning down a 1/2 but just say were playing this tune in F, G, A etc.even though it's a 1/2 step down? You use the normal fret positions so as not to confuse everyone.

For the guitar et al all the songs are called in the regular key. I have to drop a step. I would tune down the steel but then all the end plate stops would be off and I play with more than one band

Just when thought I had completely lost my sense of humor: I run into " scriptural frequencies " thanks again.

I joined a band that did this, I bought a Digitech Drop stomp box. The new fiddle, mandolin, rhy guitar player did not like this. The last fiddle player was a little out of tune when he tuned down as the scale would be different. I convinced the band leader to tune back up. He did. Lucky me as I did detune several times.

I can play in any key but 5 hours of Eb and F# is a lot of work.
